birth-control2

President Obama announced on Friday, February 10, 2012 changes to the contraception rule of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, which requires that employer-provided health plans cover all FDA-approved contraceptives without co-pays or deductibles.

The President’s changes affect faith-affiliated employers, which will no longer have to pay directly for birth control coverage. Instead, insurance companies must cover the costs and reach out to affected employees. The employee insurance plans of houses of worship and other faith-based nonprofits that serve and employ people of a set faith are fully exempt from the rule.
