$6.1 Million Grant Will Assist Low-Income Individuals Across Arizona

Arizona Family Health Partnership, a 501c3 nonprofit agency, has been awarded a $6.1 million Title X Family Planning Grant from the Department of Health and Human Services/Office of Population Affairs (OPA) to continue its long-standing role of providing quality, confidential reproductive and sexual healthcare services to low-income people including youth in Arizona.

The Title X Program, which began in the early 1970s as part of the Public Health Service Act, serves adults and teens with counseling, information and preventive sexual and reproductive health services including birth control, breast and cervical cancer screenings, fertility awareness information and STD/HIV testing.

During a typical year in Arizona, more than 30,000 individuals receive Title X services at low or no-cost at more than 50 health centers. Confidentiality is ensured and is meant for the uninsured and under-insured people with low incomes and other groups who have been systematically excluded from receiving care.

“The Arizona Title X network provides a broad range of critical preventative health and sexual and reproductive health services by connecting clients to caring providers, offering inclusive health education and advocating for evidence-based health policy at every level of government,” said AFHP CEO Bré Thomas. “We are fully committed to and passionate about ensuring patients receive accurate, unbiased, patient-centered information and care they need to make informed personal decisions to thrive.”

The nationwide federal Title X grant program, administered by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services OPA, prioritizes serving people with low-incomes and is implemented through grants to over 3,500 clinical sites, including public health departments and non-profit health centers.

“Title X-funded care is consistently high quality because of the evidence-based medical standards and core values that guide it,” Thomas said. “As the steward of this critical public health program in Arizona for over 45 years, our purpose is to create a future where everyone has the trust, support and information to choose what’s best for them. That’s why we’re making sexual and reproductive healthcare accessible to everyone, no matter who they are or where they come from.”

AFHP also owns and operates www.sexfyi.org offering complete, medically-based information about contraceptive methods and adolescent rights as well as a health center locator to easily connect with the nearest facility.
