Elected officials pay attention to direct correspondence from constituents. Here are some suggestions to consider:
Be concise and to-the-point.
Clearly state your position on the issue.
If applicable, include the bill number, bill name and bill summary.
Keep your language and tone clean and polite.
Address officials with the proper salutation, i.e, Representative, Senator, Governor, etc.
Use facts and first-hand, relevant stories.
If you are a constituent of the elected official, make sure to mention it.
If comfortable in doing so, leave your address and/or phone number for follow-up contact.
Thank them for their time and consideration of the matter.
