Tips and Contact Information
Elected officials pay attention to direct correspondence from constituents. Here are some suggestions to consider:
  • Be concise and to-the-point.
  • Clearly state your position on the issue.
  • If applicable, include the bill number, bill name and bill summary.
  • Keep your language and tone clean and polite.
  • Address officials with the proper salutation, i.e, Representative, Senator, Governor, etc.
  • Use facts and first-hand, relevant stories.
  • If you are a constituent of the elected official, make sure to mention it.
  • If comfortable in doing so, leave your address and/or phone number for follow-up contact.
  • Thank them for their time and consideration of the matter.
