thxbirthcontrol

Today is the day we say, “Thanks, Birth Control.” From the condom (both male and female), to the pill, to the IUD (intra-uterine device), and all the amazing methods in between, birth control helps women and men all over the world say, “Not right now,” when it comes to getting pregnant.

“Not right now” means different things to different people. For some, it could mean “Not right now, I’m finishing school,” or, “Not right now, I’m too young,” or, “Not right now, I just had a baby!” For others, it could mean “Never.”

Whatever “Not right now” means to you, birth control is there for you!

Here are just some of the reasons we’re saying “Thanks, Birth Control!”

  • Thanks for helping build stronger families!
  • Thanks for being so awesome that it is used by 99% of women who have sex!
  • Birth control was named one of the Top 10 Public Health Achievements in the last 100 years by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention!
  • Thanks for saving the U.S. money! For every publicly funded dollar spent on family planning, $7.09 is saved!
  • Thanks for more economic opportunities for young women!
  • Women using birth control carefully and consistently account for only 5% of all unplanned pregnancies!
  • Thanks for giving us the freedom to plan a family on our own terms!
  • Roughly 1 in 4 teens get pregnant by age 20. In places like Colorado, where birth control methods like IUDs are being used by teens, that number is reduced dramatically!
  • Thanks for improved maternal health!
  • Thanks for fewer abortions!
  • 71% of Americans favor the goal of reducing unplanned pregnancies in the U.S., and birth control can help us get there!
  • Thanks for less child poverty!
  • Thanks for reminding us of something that has great bi-partisan support! That’s right – bi-partisan support!
    • Seventy-eight percent of adults (82% of Democrats, 80% of Independents, and 70% of Republicans) believe policymakers who are opposed to abortion should be strong supporters of birth control.
    • Ninety percent of adults (92% of Democrats and 90% of Republicans) agree that for those who are not trying to get pregnant, using birth control means taking personal responsibility.
